It’s official, Amoeba Records will relocate its flagship Hollywood location
Drawings of a new tower intended to go on the current site were published in 2016, starting the rumors of Amoeba’s demise. Planning documents were unearthed confirming the sale of the property to the real estate development firm GPI Properties in 2017, and Amoeba co-owner Marc Weinstein confirmed to Variety that they are indeed scouting out new locations for the historic music store. Currently reviewing three different 20,000 square foot options for the new space, Weinstein confirmed that Amoeba will stay in Hollywood and will also pursue a dispensary license for the new location. Amoeba Records’ Hollywood location currently employs about 200 people, and its lease runs out in early 2019.
