Dusky emerge from studio with a five-track EP, ‘Aset Forever,’ and adjoining tour; listen to 1st single
Until now, hopes of fresh Dusky in 2018 had been beginning to fizzle out. The illustrious duo had put out a remix to KiNK’s “Perth” earlier in the year, but nothing since their Square Miso EP released a year prior.
These worries have officially been quelled, however, with Dusky’s surprise announcement of a five-tracker by the name of Aset Forever. It derives its name from an old colleague and close friend of theirs, who sadly lost his life as 2017 came to a close. This friend, né Jan Francis, had helped them score some of their earlier, underground gigs.
Aset Forever appears to capture the nostalgic feel of Dusky’s early days, based off its debut single “Amongst The Gods.” It carries an aesthetic that is simultaneously retro and futuristic in its artful blend of breaks and deep house — a combination that Dusky are well known for, yet pull off uniquely with each release they utilize this technique in. Vocal clips wailing in the background tie together its emotive, bittersweet nature, drawing the conclusion that “Amongst The Gods” is likely a direct homage to Jan Francis’ passing.
Dusky’s return to the public eye doesn’t end with an extensive EP. The pair will also be embarking on a 15-stop North American tour to accompany the record, including a stop at California’s CRSSD Fest. Tickets for their upcoming events can be found here.
