The Knocks dish LP release date, share music video for ‘Goodbyes’
The Knocks are gearing up for a fall of funk, announcing their sophomore LP, New York Narcotic, and sharing a retro-tinged music video for “Goodbyes.”
The upcoming album is the duo’s first full-length offering since since 2016’s 55, which monstered playlists with hits like “Classic” and the Wyclef Jean-assisted “Kiss The Sky.” New York Narcotic promises more of the same when it drops September 28 on Neon Gold/Big Beat Records. The Knocks are already riding high on their hit Foster The People collab “Ride or Die,” which already sits 22 million streams and counting.
For their third single, which features none other than Wu Tang’s Method Man, the two draw upon their surprisingly checkered history as hip hop producers – Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and Mobb Deep are just a few of the heavy hitters they counted as collaborators during the early-mid 2000s. “Goodbyes” sees the group’s own JPatt trading verses with Method over a horn laden funk house groove. The Knocks explained into the inspiration for the grainy music video, directed and edited by Luke Rathborne:
“We wanted this video to be a nod to some of our favorite style videos we grew up watching. 90’s rap videos usually didn’t need more than a good stoop and a bunch of people having a good time, so we got some friends together and shot this in Brooklyn on an old VHS camera. We love how much it captures the essence of NYC & how it’s a futuristic touch on classic hip-hop imagery; something we hoped to similarly achieve sonically with the song.”
