Good Morning Mix: Get moving with Bonobo’s masterful early-2018 Boiler Room set
Of the countless opportunities to witness Bonobo‘s culturally transcendent DJing online, Simon Green’s January Boiler Room set might be the best example of this undertaking.
Over the years, Green’s musical talent’s evolved beyond delightful downtempo undulations. He’s honed in on his ability to paint a room with textural, colorful palettes of world music musings. A musical cartographer — Green’s knack for saddling an Afro-inflected guitar next to a skittish flute and bombastic sub-bass is uncanny. Bonobo’s 2010 single “Kiara” and its oriental strings and spliced beats was one of the earliest indications that the world was in for a treat, and in his Boiler Room set he’s crossing these cultural borders, even bringing along Nickodamus, DJ Sabine, and the Moroccan band Innov Gnawa, who supplied the African rhythms that played such an important role in his album Migration.
