Red Bull Music Academy debuts the world’s largest sequencer

The Red Bull Music Academy, born in Berlin and raised by the world, is coming home. Since its inception in 1998, the 5-week traveling event has snowballed picking up some of the most influencing producers and innovative technologies along the way. Some of the talents RBMA has brought together include Nina Kraviz, Aloe Blacc, Flying Lotus, and Black Coffee – and far beyond. The public portion of its program contains art installations, club nights, lectures, and concerts. One may ask, “How does an event backed by a company famous for pushing the limit further and harder than anyone else celebrate 20 years of music, alumni, and their accolades?”

Currently in front of the techno institution Tresor, sits the RBMA-20, the world largest sequencer. Developed by Red Bull Music and Neulant van Exel. The fully functional drum machine weighs in at over 1,300 pounds, is 33 feet long and 8 feet tall. It also features a modular synth, sampling unit, has 427 buttons, and yes, you can play with it.

When one looks at the scale of the RBMA-20 they may think of a train, which is appropriate because while RBMA 2018 is happening Berlin’s subway and tram cars will be disguised as the machines that influenced the city’s club culture and music internationally. You can get a ride to the warehouse or an office in the Roland TR-808, the Korg MS-20, Native Instruments Maschine and Ableton Push.

RMBA 2018 will be taking hold of Berlin from September 8 to October 12, 2018.
