Sam Smith and Disclosure’s Guy Lawrence reunite to cover Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’

It’s a thing of beauty when iconic collaborations from across the ages come together, especially when the result is equally noteworthy. In 1977, Boston-born Donna Summer released “I Feel Love,” one of the hottest pop hits to date, alongside legendary producer Giorgio Moroder. The pair, who worked together often, revolutionized the disco era that helped pave the way for contemporary dance music. History now comes full circle via the genius musicality from Disclosure and Sam Smith, who’ve reunited to provide their own touch on “I Feel Love” after their own series of historic joint records.

In 2012, they gave the world “Latch,” a song that — like “I Feel Love” — peaked in the Top 10 of Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. “Omen” was soon to follow, a 2015 hit released as the second single from Disclosure’s second studio album Caracal. Needless to say, the two joining together to cover a Donna Summer track almost felt bound to happen. The release holds a special place in Sam Smith’s heart, per his comments on Facebook:

With production from Guy Lawrence—one half of the Disclosure brothers—Smith’s vocals are the “highest” he’s ever gone, yet dreamy as ever. It’s clear that Lawrence was careful on the arrangement here, as there’s no need to alter the original disco-synth rhythm. Yet, he added some deeper bass and overall heaviness to give the edit an added boost.

Sam Smith recently announced a 2020 pop album, and Disclosure will venture to Indonesia in December for DJakarta Warehouse Project 2019. Head here for tickets and more info.
