First Listen: Valentino Khan ushers in ‘French Fried’ EP with lead single, ‘Blackmail’

Since bursting into the dance scene in 2015 with his smash single “Deep Down Low,” Valentino Khan has built a reputation as a hit maker in the studio and a party animal on stage. Khan has always managed to instill his fiery sound into whatever styles he takes on, a trend which continues as he ventures into new inspirations for his forthcoming EP, French Fried. For his upcoming project with Mad Decent, VK is aiming to draw from his roots as a French electro house fan, explaining,

“My introduction to dance music over a decade ago came from passing by my brother’s room and hearing the distorted electronic sounds that were coming overseas from Europe. This music was fresh to my American ears and created a new culture that motivated me to push boundaries as a producer… This next series of releases blends my own sounds with the inspirations I’ve drawn from this era of dance music. In doing that, I’m looking to continue to evolve as an artist by bringing a fresh perspective to the table sonically.“

On “Blackmail,” the EP’s lead single, the marriage between classic electro and Khan’s trademark sound couldn’t be clearer. After beginning with a catchy four-on-the-floor bass line, “Blackmail” moves to a gradual dramatic build before closing on a high. Many artists struggle when taking on new styles, but on his first attempt Khan immediately sounds in his lane with his latest.

Valentino Khan commemorated his single and EP announcement with a two-hour Quarantino Khan livestream. Additionally, Khan is slated to release a single from his new project every two weeks until his EP’s release. Listen to “Blackmail” below.
