Jimmy Pé makes his presence felt with 2022 opener, ‘Pé Is Not Dead!’
Unusual sound design is the name of Jimmy Pé’s game, as the Slovakian creative renders clear on “Pé Is Not Dead!” With the title serving as a sign of the personality to pour out of the speakers once the audio-visual experience is engaged, “Pé Is Not Dead!” is an avant-garde addition to Pé’s catalog that doubles as his first release of the year.
Broken rhythms create a sense of disorientation that permeates the stuttering production, which gives further credence to Pé’s self-branding as a “broken-beat explorer.” Dicing electronica with idiosyncratic flair, and evidently having fun with it along the way, Jimmy Pé has shared the stage with reputed tastemakers such as Hudson Mohawke, Four Tet, and Thundercat, while making his way through venues in the United States, India, and Europe. With a credit on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 (Slovakia) list and a victory in the Radio_Head awards for Best Electronic Album in Slovakia for Fake Fantasy, released in 2015, Pé has colorfully challenged the quotidian in resume-bolstering ways, with more accolades assuredly to come in 2022.
