ill.Gates administers a heavy dose of the unexpected on ‘Bent’ compilation
Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor Bent crafted overnight. Self-described as the “culmination of years of work fusing hip-hop sensibilities with experimental electronics,” ill.Gates’ answer to his 2021 LP, The Arrival, hits SoundCloud in a 12-track fury. The compilation, spanning ill.Gates originals and remixes alike, orchestrates the collision of dubstep, drum ’n’ bass, hip-hop, indie-dance, and experimental in a context in which no streamer knows just what might happen next. Less of an album and more of an audio experience, Bent deals in heavy elements fit for mosh pits that will prove enough to incite neighbors if the volume on the speaker happens to be set too high.
Bent is led by “Bezos!” which provided an early peek into the project’s sound upon its early-April arrival. Stream the self-released LP below.
