Dee Mash stares down mental health struggles, stigma on ‘Superhuman’ EP

Dee Mash’s foot is heavy on the gas. He pumps it; the result is cinematic, throttling: his Superhuman EP.

“There’s a whole view beyond the light at the end of the tunnel,” he says. This is project’s thematic ethos.

In its cacophony of future bass, trap basslines, and textured instrumentation—horns, strings, and synths—Superhuman chronicles Dee Mash seven-year struggle with mental health. The listening experience is winding and unexpected, a rollercoaster of apexes and dips that mimics the ups and downs of mental health and emotion in flux. It’s bold and developed, and, true to Dee Mash’s intent, it confidently flips a middle finger to stigmatizing beliefs on mental health.

Superhuman answers Dee Mash’s first single of 2022, “Unmask,” released on April 8, and follows one of his largest headlining shows to date at Sound Bar Chicago on June 17. Stream the EP below.
