Medina releases Forever LP
Remixed by Deadmau5 and featured on Wolfgang Gartners' tracks, Medina releases her first album Forever, which showcases the influence of Danish disco-pop on dance music. With a vocal range that can float over soft instrumentals to belting strength over big room power house tracks, the talented song-writer flexes her full arsenal of music talents on her debut album. Though the songs start to blend in towards the end, Forever (out on Ultra Records) will provide the vocal hooks that surely will gain many fans (and definitely remixes) previously unfamiliar with her work.
Moogfest Returns to Asheville in 2014, lineup announced
After a short break in 2013 while the festival changed hands in partnership deals, Moogfest is returning to Asheville, NC on April 23-27th. In commemoration of the late American synth pioneer Bob Moog, the weekend has always been dedicated to new advances in music.
DA Premiere: My Favorite Robot – Sharpest Tongue
With bouncy and low key synths, My Favorite Robot's minimalist track 'Sharpest Tongue' combines elements of indie music with electronica. A refreshing revisit to retro sounds from the previous millennium, the track's music video highlights senior citizens wandering, dancing, and shuffling through a dated bowling alley. Combined with a sultry and smooth vocal line, this is a track not meant for festival main stages but rather late night private grooves. With a remix album Atomic Age Remixes EP recently released, My Favorite Robot is poised for big things in 2014, and kicks off the new year in Los Angeles before jetting off to winter haven of electronic music at the BPM Festival. Dates after the break.
Black Butter Records wraps up 2013 with #One
Black Butter Records may not be a household name, but closer examination at their A&R efforts reveal a stellar portfolio. Discovering critically acclaimed Rudimental, cult favorite Jessie Ware, and Gorgon City, the label has played a hand in steering dance music in new directions much more than the traditional big house EDM fare. In their first year end compilation, the label packages a stellar album of remixes, original tracks, and more from up and coming talent. From the first track from Solomun Grey to the last mix by Rudimental, this may be one of the most impressive compilations we have heard all year.
BPM releases Phase 3 lineup and 10 day party schedule
While the much of the world hides from the icy winter winds, BPM Festival is stacking its lineup with blockbuster talent in a small corner of Mexico. Adding to a massive Phase 1 and Phase 2 artist roster that includes the likes of Loco Dice, Richie Hawtin, and Seth Troxler, the 10 day affair welcomes Boys Noize, Felix da Housecat, and Dennis Ferrer to the party. Moreover, the day and night party schedules have been announced as well. Boasting three parties a day for both sessions, the festival creates agonizing dilemmas. Luciano's Cadenza party or the Hot Natured gang's Paradise one? Never Say Never with Sasha or Circo Loco with Seth Troxler? See the full list of artists added and listed events after the break.
