Electric Daisy Carnival New York: Day 1 Photo Recap
We spent our first day at EDC NY braving the massive crowd and the scorching heat as it bounced off the asphalt of Citi Field's massive parking lot. Sampling the sounds and styles of the festival's 5 diversely-curated stages, we found ourselves gravitating most to the Neon Garden tent - seeking shelter from the packed crowd, sweltering heat, and noisebleed that plagued the festival's other 3 stages.
Smoky warehouses and deep grooves, Chris Malinchak and Gorgon City get RINSED in Brooklyn
Long before dance music exploded into the public eye, before festivals spanned two weekends and Soundcloud and Twitter defined our listening habits, electronic music was enjoyed in empty warehouses and dimly lit basements. A true underground movement, one that embodied both the seedy underbelly of urban culture and an unwavering dedication to music discovery, dance music was enjoyed without the glitz and glamour that has become synonymous with EDM today. Despite the socialites of New York City's recent adoption of dance music into upscale clubs throughout Manhattan, there still exists a vibrant and healthy underground scene --one that is tucked far away from sparkling champagne bottles and beautiful hostesses, housed instead in illegal warehouses in nearby Brooklyn. Last Friday, this is where Gorgon City would make their New York City debut and Chris Malinchak would spin his sugary-sweet disco in a dingy, smoke-filled room.

Walden – Machine Land (Original Mix) [Preview]
After the success of "Ciaco," "Warmonger" and "Intropial," one of DA's Artists to Watch in 2013, Walden, hops back into the original production ring with a one-two punch of atmospheric electro. This brief preview of his latest "Machine Land," showcases the young producer's constantly maturing sound, one that is almost reminiscent of The M Machine's early work.. As his career continues on its hot streak, Walden seems to be expanding his sonic range - delivering a finely developed and intricately layered electro house production with chilling style and frenetic synthwork.
Nom De Strip – Clouds EP: Volume 2
After splitting from Stupid Fresh in 2009, Chris Elliott assumed the new moniker Nom De Strip, developing his new persona and style into a sound that was hard to define. Rather than pigeonhole himself to one specific genre, Nom De Strip represents a more experimental and grassroots approach to electronic music - one that has seen the producer's sound touch on everything from electro to disco. On his latest EP, Clouds Volume 2, Chris taps into his electro backbone to deliver three high-octane productions that are as unrelenting as they are gritty. "Techno Saturday" is punctuated by a Dutch breakdown, tactfully meshing together electro groans and techno-fueled percussion. On "Seesaw" Acid house reigns king, utilizing a barrage of 808s and ghastly synthesizers to push the track into overdrive. The most party-friendly track on the EP, "Tyhita" refuses to take any prisoners, featuring a shuffling bass line and thunderous kicks that are complimented by a peak hour vocal line encased in a fury of electro house punches.
