Dancing Astronaut presents Axis, Episode 055: Mixed by Helena
For a special Tuesday edition of Axis the lovely Helena graces our airwaves with an adrenaline packed hour of peak time floor shakers. Helena showcases her ear for mash-ups and quick transitions on her Axis debut, packing twenty tracks and mashes into her hour long mix. Maintaining an unrelenting pace throughout, the UK-born, Australian-bred DJ deftly assembles a high-energy set destined for repeat plays and party soundtracks. Shunning airy melodies in favor of some of today's hardest-hitting cuts, Helena embodies the heavy electro mindset of Australia's rowdy nightlife.
Mike Koglin vs. 7 Skies – Vision (Original Mix)
The legendary German trance producer Mike Koglin is back with his third major collaboration of late (the other two being "Dyno" with "Helion" with Genix) in the form of "Vision" with Italian 7 Skies. The track lifts off with a grungy bass riff, slowly building with a sprinkle of staccato pad work into a full blown synth breakdown. We don't want to oversell you on this one, but it's a truly rapturous trance anthem. If you recognize it, you may remember hearing it in Above & Beyond's TATW 450 set in Bangalore back at the end of November.
Skunk Anansie – I Hope You Get To Meet Your Hero (Gregor Salto Remix)
Leave it to Gregor Salto to take an emotionally-driven rock ballad and turn it into a dance tune, complete with a mellow, but infectious beat. His latest remix features vocals from Skunk Anansie's Skin and lyrics that touch on the "perils of putting people you love on pedestals," according to the band. While EDM fans may not be focused on the message, it certainly adds depth to the otherwise happy-sounding track. You can check out Gregor's remix of the song below and, if you're into the track, consider checking out the Daddy's Groove & Cryogenix remix too.
‘Cream Ibiza’ mixed by Above & Beyond (album review)
If you simply you can't get enough Anjuna, then "Cream Ibiza, mixed by Above & Beyond" is everything you want it to be, a brilliant portrait of the label's recent successes. With appearances by Arty, Mat Zo, Andrew Bayer, Norin & Rad, Parker & Hanson, and Jaytech, it's a snapshot of Above & Beyond as they are in the summer of 2012 -- It's a little slice of trance 2.0, preserved forever. Oh, and Eric Prydz, Markus Schulz, and Jerome Isma-Ae feature, too.
Above & Beyond – Group Therapy LA at the Shrine May 17 and May 18 (concert review)
With a stunning three night run at Los Angeles' historic Shrine Auditorium, Above & Beyond demonstrated that, in the right hands, dance music can become more than just entertainment. The Group Therapy experience defies rational explanation. It's magical.
