Best of BPM: Our favorite live sets from the marathon Mexican festival
If you're anything like us, you probably spent much of the last ten days avoiding social media for fear of mention of BPM, an event quickly becoming dance music's greatest amalgamation of (largely deep house and techno) talent at once.
Watch BPM Festival live stream through January 13th
Thanks to our friends over at Be-At.TV, you can spend an entire masochistic week watching and listening along to the live streams from all times of day at the BPM Festival going on right now through January 13th in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. You can explore the site directly, or check out schedules on BPM's Facebook page. Dubfire's Sci + Tec, Toolroom, Loco Dice and Martin Buttrich's Desolat, Sasha's Never Say Never, and Guy Gerber's This Is The End are just a few of the parties you'll have to drool over in coming days.
Dancing Astronaut’s Editors’ Selections for 2012
We've gone over the biggest artists, albums, and tracks of 2012, but our end of the year roundup really wouldn't be complete unless we talked about our own favorites from this year. These are the songs that made us feel, gave us chills, made us party, and made us cry. You'd probably find these tracks with high play counts in our music libraries and dripping with nostalgia if you make us talk about them further.
Dancing Astronaut’s Top 25 Underground Artists of 2012: 15-6
The underground had a big year in the US in 2012 and we only felt it appropriate to highlight some of these amazing artists independently from potentially bigger or more commercial artists in the dance music world today. We considered the year these artists have had in terms of production, live sets, and overall influence. We also generally picked artists we love and admire; artists we feel are extremely important to pushing electronic music forward. This list of 25 names includes legends and young guns alike, but we can assure you that every single one of these artists is incredibly talented and is well worth a listen or a trip to a club for a live set. Picking up where we left off yesterday, we will continue the countdown with our picks from #15 to the #6 spot.
Good Morning Mix – Sasha Live At kaZantip Opening (7/31/2012)
If you haven't heard of kaZantip by now you have probably been living under a rock. This 6 week long party on the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine has been hailed as the most decadent dance music experience in the world. At this year's kaZantip, Sasha opened the infamous event with an immaculately crafted performance that set the stage for the rest of the "festival." (Can you really call a 6 week long dance party a festival? I'm not really sure.) So turn the volume up, close your eyes, lean back in your uncomfortable office chair, and let Sasha's smooth groove transport you to kaZantip - then book your flight for next year.
Electric Zoo 2012 Day 2: Memorable moments from Randall’s Island
Our second day on Randall's island was hotter and more hectic than the first. With a massive influx of concertgoers and a slew of big name progressive headliners, Saturday at Electric Zoo finally embodied the "zoo" aesthetic. All tents were packed to the brim with energetic fans, braving the heat and humidity to see their favorite acts. With names like Axwell, Dada Life, Wolfgang Gartner, Rusko, Above & Beyond, Steve Aoki, and Sasha on the lineup, there was a sound to satisfy anyone's tastes -- and plenty of security guards with hoses to keep them the crowds cool.
Why Sasha will outshine the pack, Saturday at Electric Zoo
Day two of Electric Zoo presents all-star lineups at each tent; Axwell on the Main Stage, Benny Benassi at Hilltop Arena, Steve Aoki at Riverside, and Sasha at Sunday School Grove. For those who have been around the block, only one name truly stands out – that is the legendary Sasha.
