Paul van Dyk and Arty release official video for ‘The Ocean’
The official music video for "The Ocean," Paul van Dyk and Arty's almost-too-appropriately-titled collaboration, hit the Inter-webs today. The track, from the German trance superstar's most recent album, Evolution, is a poignant bridge between trance's past (PvD) and future (Arty).
Above & Beyond – Group Therapy LA at the Shrine May 17 and May 18 (concert review)
With a stunning three night run at Los Angeles' historic Shrine Auditorium, Above & Beyond demonstrated that, in the right hands, dance music can become more than just entertainment. The Group Therapy experience defies rational explanation. It's magical.
Anjunabeats Worldwide 04, Mixed by Maor Levi & Nitrous Oxide (album review)
To be honest, there isn't a bad track on Anjunabeats Worldwide 04. Trying to curate the best ones for you was painful, because all of Nitrous Oxide's contributions on CD2 are worthy of mention. If you're a trance fan, you need this album. Ineed, it's superior to any of the mix compilations Anjunabeats has put out recently -- includings Anjunabeats Vol. 8 and Vol. 9, both of which were mixed by Above & Beyond themselves.
W&W – Shotgun (Original Mix)
W&W's Shotgun" treads the fine line between trance and big-room house, and it would be confusing to classify it as one or the other. The synths, when we hear them, are distinctively trancey. But we don't hear them much -- most of the track is rhythmic rather than melodic. Rumble, thump, pummel. Rumble, thump, pummel.
“Songs Worthy of Your Subwoofer #2”: Above & Beyond – Love is Not Enough (Kaskade Remix)
Kaskade's remix of Above & Beyond's "Love Is Not Enough" is a song worthy of my subwoofer (and perhaps even yours, too). The original mix was pure trance, and it was pretty damn good. Kaskade's remix, in my opinion, is better. It reaffirms my personal belief that Kaskade is America's most important Mormon (Mitt Romney might disagree, but he hasn't remixed Above & Beyond).
