Our favorite bespectacled Brit is back with yet another masterful deep house thumper. “Deck 9,” which follows in the footsteps of the stellar “Shinjuku,” is built on Funkagenda’s trademark throbbing bassline. In this case, the big-room beat provides a solid base upon which Funkagenda constructs a precise but catchy hook. The Funk Farm boss clearly understands that a track is like a house — without a sturdy foundation, everything else will collapse. “Deck 9” features more trancey synths than we’d usually expect from Funkagenda, but the addition is a welcome one. We always appreciate it when an accomplished artist is willing to experiment with new sounds, and “Deck 9” proves that Funkagenda has the producing chops to match his elegance behind the decks. Funky.
