Moby claims to have insider information about Trump’s ties to Russia
Moby is no stranger to voicing his opinion regarding politics. The most recent example of this comes in the form of a lengthy Instagram post, in which the artist claimed to have insider information from sources in Washington supporting the rumors that Russian officials have a compromising video of President Trump “not just for being peed on by [Russian] hookers, but for much more nefarious things.”
Moby goes on to explain a grandiose conspiracy that the Russian government is involved with the Trump administration, the Right Wing establishment plans to oust The Donald, the Trump administration is preparing for war with Iran, and members of the global intelligence community “are horrified by the incompetence of the trump administration.” This all comes at the same time President Trump’s National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has resigned his post amid controversy over his relationship with a Russian ambassador. Flynn admitted to “inadvertently” providing incomplete information on the contents of his conversations with the Russian ambassador to the Mike Pence and other Trump administration officials. However, Moby’s claims remain unsubstantiated.
Unfortunately for Moby, the claims made in an Instagram post hold no more weight than those made on Twitter speculating on voter fraud and fake news. Moby provides no sources other than the vague notion he got these from nameless friends in Washington D.C. These accusations stir the pot and get Moby’s strong support base riled up, but are more like fighting fire with fire in terms of producing lasting change in opposition to the Trump Administration’s policies.
This is not to say Moby hasn’t made serious positive contributions as an activist in recent times. In the past year, the musician has spearheaded benefit concerts for animal rights groups, launched a benefit campaign for the Ghost Ship warehouse fire in Oakland, and maintained long standing support for the David Lynch Foundation. With such a track record of quality activism and community support, it is a surprise to see Moby take Trump’s own ad hominem-laden route.
