Junkie XL selects winner of 300: Rise of an Empire contest
After a countless submissions and an arduous selection process to choose the best remix of Junkie XL's “History of Artemisia” from 300: Rise of an Empire, the iconic producer has chosen his favorite remix of the lot. Los Angeles-based, Netherlands transplant Marlon Ray's remix has been dubbed the undisputed victor by JXL. The producer tells us he spent a considerable amount of time listening to and digesting the track's stems before jumping into the production hotseat. marLon used his traditional background in funk, rock, and pop, to twist the anthemic original into a gripping soundscape of twinkling electronica. Sped up to 100BPM, he built the remix in Pro Tools, spending days on each of the track's elements, meticulously crafting what would become JXL's favorite remix in the submission pool. His attention to detail and unique approach to sound design quickly set his rendition apart from the masses, earning him a proper spot at the top of the heap.
Deadmau5 and Kaskade take the Purrari out for a coffee run
Last week, Deadmau5 and Kaskade took to the road in the Purrari for a 32-minute coffee run in what could be the most entertaining installment yet. As always during the Coffee Run series, conversation is causal and bounces from production, to music, to EDM, Meowington's and everything in between. Kaskade talks about the incredible sound at Brooklyn's Output and then discusses his encounter with the Redux scalper (or is it redeux?). Rob Ford is also a topic of conversation, as the Toronto mayor was scheduled for a coffee run but was busted for smoking crack again and had to cancel. Watch two of dance music's most prominent figures grab some coffee and shoot the shit above.
Ariana Grande collaborating with Zedd on upcoming track
Pop star Ariana Grande is taking her sophomore album into the EDM realm with the help of Zedd. Following up her debut album Yours Truly, Grande is working with Zedd on a tune she described as "fantastic and super-experimental for me." She went on to discuss the experience claiming that, "I never thought I’d do an EDM song, but that was an eye-opening experience, and now all I want to do is dance.” After his numerous commercial successes alongside female focuses, Anton and Ariana's collaboration may be the young producer's next big hit.
