Unsurprisingly, Isabelle Rezazadeh has been off to an incredibly strong start in 2017. Last Friday, February 3, REZZ released her long-awaited k?d collaboration, the insidious “Fourth Impact.” Tomorrow, REZZ will release her next original production via Zeds Dead’s Deadbeats label, as part of its Deadbeats 1 compilation, alongside productions from Zeds Dead, smle, and more.
Entitled “Matrix,” REZZ’s newest track is one of her heaviest to date. From its sinister opening melodies, an interesting phenomenon arises within the song’s structure. While, typically, Rezazadeh’s productions are defined by dynamic bass-lines and quaking, steady beat drum patterns, the LFOs and percussive elements seem to switch roles within “Matrix.” Throughout the song’s drops, the chaotic maelstrom of virulent bass whirs perpetually in a static rhythmic form, while the percussion itself is broken beat and more dynamic. This paradigmatic inversion marks yet another innovative approach from REZZ, and lends further excitement to her future releases.
Stream “Matrix” below in advance of its release tomorrow, February 10.
